What must a GST invoice include?

A tax invoice issued by a GST-registered business needs these details. The generator includes every one of them.

  • Supplier details

Your business name, address and GSTIN.

  • Invoice number and date

A unique, consecutive number for the financial year and the date of issue.

  • Recipient details

Your client's name and address, plus their GSTIN if they are registered.

  • HSN or SAC code

The goods (HSN) or services (SAC) classification code for each item.

  • Description and quantity

What you supplied, with the quantity and unit.

  • Taxable value

The value of each item after any discount, before GST.

  • GST rate and amount

The rate and tax amount, shown as CGST + SGST or as IGST.

  • Place of supply

The state where the supply is delivered. It decides which GST applies.

  • Total in figures and words

The invoice total written as a number and in words.

  • Signature

A signature or digital signature of the supplier or an authorised person.

CGST + SGST vs IGST

Same state: CGST + SGST

When your state and the place of supply are the same, the GST is split equally. On ₹1,000 at 18%, that is ₹90 CGST to the Centre and ₹90 SGST to the state.

Different state: IGST

When the place of supply is in another state, the full rate is charged as IGST. On ₹1,000 at 18%, that is ₹180 IGST, collected by the Centre and shared with the destination state.

How to create a GST invoice

  1. Step 1

    Add your business

Enter your name, address and GSTIN. The state fills in from the GSTIN, and you can save these details for next time.

  2. Step 2

    Add your client

Enter the client's name, address and state, plus their GSTIN if they have one. The place of supply follows their state.

  3. Step 3

    List the items

Add each product or service with its HSN/SAC code, quantity, rate, discount and GST rate. Totals update as you type.

  4. Step 4

    Download or print

Check the preview, then download an A4 PDF or print the invoice.
